JAPAN
2016 - 2023
Perfection. Tradition. Progress.
These three words describe very precisely what I associate with Japan.
Even after several visits, this mysterious state still seems like an unknown universe
which fascinates and surprises me every moment. Japan consists of much more than
loud, fast and always consuming masses of people, living in stressful, huge
megacities surrounded and brainwashed by the newest electronic equipment.
Far away from the world's largest metropolitan area Tōkyō, the old, imperial city
of Kyōto is waiting for the visitor who´s interested in old, japanese culture and
traditions, waiting to get discovered by curious minds.
Gigantic bamboo forests, where only the wind creates its meditative sound of nature.
Rugged coastal areas with fascinating, unreal shaped rock formations.
Filigree shrines, elaborately timbered temples and mystical cemeteries, so perfectly
integrated into their natural surroundings, as if Mother Nature herself had designed them.
Despite the immense technical progress, this country masters the difficult balance
between it´s fast development and it´s silent, harmonious way of preserving old traditions.
Full of respect and humility, Japan, with all its harsh contrasts and superficial
contradictions, appears like a well thought-out unit in which every element seems
to make sense.
This fascination keeps motivating me to capture the perfection and the simplicity
in my photography.
This is a work in progress ...
